raised from the dead

Are people being raised from the dead today?

The Bible mentions several cases of people who were raised from the dead. Both prophets of the Old Testament and apostles of the New Testament raised the dead. Jesus Christ also raised several people from the dead, and of course Christ rose from the grave Himself. Jesus gave the stunning commandment to believers to raise the dead as well, as part of the great commandment to proclaim His victory over sin, sickness and death:

Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. Freely you received, freely give. (Matthew 10:8)

Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living. (Romans 14:9)

Are there examples today of people who have been raised from the dead, through the power of God? Yes. All over the world there are testimonies of dead people who have came back to life, after christians prayed for them. In the following videos you can see some of these miracles. A cardiologist prays for a man who has been dead for forty minutes…

Jeff Markin was on his way to work, when he suddenly started feeling unwell. His boss told hom to the hospital, where Jeff collapsed. He had a massive deadly heart attack.

For 40 minutes the medical team tried to bring Jeff back to life. They shocked him a dozen times. There was no response. Jeff was declared dead and a nurse began to prepare his dead body for the mortuary.

Cardiologist Dr. Crandall updated the charts and as soon as his note was completed, he walked out through the door to the emergency room, and suddenly heard a voice speak to him: ‘Go back and pray for this man.’ Dr. Crandall wanted to ignore that voice, thinking by himself ‘How can I pray for that man? He is dead, he is gone, there’s no life in him!’ But as he kept walking away, he heard the voice again: ‘Turn around and pray for that man.’ The doctor who was a christian, thought: ‘I need to honour the Lord’ so he went back to the dead body.

The nurse looked at him, thinking ‘What are you doing here?’ Dr. Crandall stood next to the corpse and began praying. Another doctor walked in the room and Dr. Crandall said: ‘Shock this man one more time.’ The doctor refused: ‘I can’t shock him, he’s dead, there’s no life in him, he’s gone’. Dr. Crandall insisted they shocked him one more time… Because Dr. Crandall was loved and respected in this hospital, his request was granted and Jeff was shocked one more time. Instantly his heartbeat came back. An instant perfect and regular heartbeat, which they’d never seen before. The nurse screamed ‘what have you done?’ Jeff began breathing and moved his fingers. He was immediately moved to the intensive care unit. Three days later Jef woke up, with no evidence of brain or organ damage.

Dr. Crandall asked Jeff: ‘Where were you, that day I prayed for you?’ Jeff replied: ‘Dr. Crandall, I was in total darkness and I was so dissapointed. I was alone for eternity.’

Dr. Crandall encouraged Jeff to open up his heart for God, and he did. It was a very emotional moment.

Historic accounts in the Bible of people who were raised from the dead.

There are several stories in the Bible about the dead being raised by the power of God. Jesus Christ raised several people from the dead, like the son of the widow in Nain, Lazarus and Jairus’ daughter. You can read about these happenings in the following bible verses:

“Now as He approached the gate of the city, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow; and a sizeable crowd from the city was with her. When the Lord saw her, He felt compassion for her, and said to her, “Do not weep.” And He came up and touched the coffin; and the bearers came to a halt. And He said, “Young man, I say to you, arise!”

The dead man sat up and began to speak. And Jesus gave him back to his mother.” (Luke 7:12-15)

jesus raised larazus from the dead

“So Jesus, again being deeply moved within, came to the tomb. Now it was a cave, and a stone was lying against it. Jesus said, “Remove the stone.” Martha, the sister of the deceased, said to Him, “Lord, by this time there will be a stench, for he has been dead four days.” Jesus said to her, “Did I not say to you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?” So they removed the stone.

Then Jesus raised His eyes, and said, “Father, I thank You that You have heard Me. I knew that You always hear Me; but because of the people standing around I said it, so that they may believe that You sent Me.”  When He had said these things, He cried out with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come forth.”

The man who had died came forth, bound hand and foot with wrappings, and his face was wrapped around with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Unbind him, and let him go.” (John 11:38-44)

“Now they were all weeping and lamenting for her; but He said, “Stop weeping, for she has not died, but is asleep.” And they began laughing at Him, knowing that she had died. He, however, took her by the hand and called, saying, “Child, arise!”

And her spirit returned, and she got up immediately.” (Luke 8:52-54)

In the Old Testament are several examples of people raised from the dead. E.g. the prophet Elijah raised a child from the dead:

“Now it came about after these things that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, became sick; and his sickness was so severe that there was no breath left in him. … He stretched himself upon the child three times, and called to the Lord and said, “O Lord my God, I pray You, let this child’s life return to him.”

The Lord heard the voice of Elijah, and the life of the child returned to him and he revived.” (1 Kings 17:22)

The prophet Elisha raised a young man from the dead:

“When Elisha came into the house, behold the lad was dead and laid on his bed. So he entered and shut the door behind them both and prayed to the Lord. … and the lad sneezed seven times and the lad opened his eyes.” (2 Kings 4:32, 35)

Why must people be raised from the dead?

Jesus Christ gave a specific mandate to his disciple to, besides healing the sick, also raise the dead. Which is logical since Jesus Christ said He came to destroy the works of satan. Sickness is basically an action of death. Many sicknesses lead indeed to death if left untreated. Jesus Christ said:

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” (John 10:10)

The thief mentioned here is satan, the source of all evil, who wants to entice people into sin and who brings destruction. He came to steal, destruct and kill. He steals life, happiness and health of people. He destroys people and sows death and destruction. But Jesus Christ went about to bring Gods salvation:

“He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.” (Acts 10:38)

Not everyone who dies, passes away in God’s timing and in God’s way.

Many people die because satan kills them with an illness, a horrific accident or by inspiring a person to kill a fellow human being.

Jesus Christ Himself was raised from the dead, by the power of the holy Spirit. In the Bible He is specifically called the victor over death.

‘Do not be afraid; I am the first and the last, and the living One; and I was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of death and of Hades.’ (Revelation 1:17, 18)

If we know that Jesus Christ is conqueror over death, we will also know that He is able to raise the dead, who have been snitched away from life in an ungodly manner.

Throughout church history there have been many accounts of the dead who were raised after prayer. The first apostles raised people from the dead, prominent church fathers like Bonifatius and St. Nicholas and 20th century revivalists like Smith Wigglesworth and John G. Lake have seen people raised from the dead after prayer.

peter raises tabitha from the dead

These are biblical examples of the apostles Peter and Paul who raised the dead:

“Now in Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha (which translated in Greek is called Dorcas)… And it happened at that time that she fell sick and died. And when they had washed her body, they laid it in an upper room. Peter sent them all out and knelt down and prayed, and turning to the body, he said, “Tabitha, arise.”

And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter, she sat up.” (Acts 9:36, 40)

“And there was a young man named Eutychus sitting on the window sill, sinking into a deep sleep; and as Paul kept on talking, he was overcome by sleep and fell down from the third floor and was picked up dead. But Paul went down and fell upon him, and after embracing him, he said, “Do not be troubled, for his life is in him.”

They took away the boy alive, and were greatly comforted.”
(Acts 20:7, 12)

Millions of people cry out in desperation: ‘Where is God?’ People are astonished that God allows so much suffering on this earth and why so many horrible things happen. The answer is that the Bible clearly states that the true Christians (not the pious Christians who talk about God, but don’t do what He says) have the mandate to represent Him. We are the Body of Jesus Christ on earth.

Wherever God’s children, His servants, those who believe in Jesus Christ, are obedient to the mandate to show God’s salvation through the power and the gifts of the Holy Spirit, that is where people will discover that God surely shows His love on earth. God is with us and He wants to stretch out His hand. But the Bible shows that He can reveal Himself where people believe in Him and obey Him. Jesus Christ revived the dead and said:

“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father.” (John 14:12)

The condition is: he who believes in Me.

If you are standing with a sick or deceased person and you want to see God’s power of salvation move… the requirement is to believe in Jesus Christ, which means you believe that He is the One who wants to do is and is able to do it.
